Sunflower & Butterfly Card

I have always wanted to make a card with this design on the front, but for some reason, I never did. This card turned out super cute, and now that I have a basic idea of making it, I would like to start making more detailed ones. 

Different versions of the design can be created depending on how detailed you want to be. You can make the sunflower 3D and have it pop off the page by rolling the petals up and rolling the butterfly wing, or scoring the middle a bit to bend them. I want to try that at some point. 

It doesn't necessarily need to be sunflowers or butterflies; you can try other flowers, or instead of butterflies, dragonflies or ladybugs.

Materials

How to create

There are two ways you can do this: you can design your own half-sunflower or use one already in Design Space. I used one in Design Space since I made my card at the last minute; I needed one already done.

The finished card might not be the same as the what you have on the screen and that is okay!

How to create your design

1. Open Cricut Design Space.
2. Add a square the same size as the card you are working with. This isn’t necessary; I do this to help with placing and sizing.
3. Pick the half-sunflower image you want to work with or upload the image you created. 
4. Add to the canvas, place it over the square you added before, and adjust it to the desired size.
5. Go back to images and pick the butterfly image(s).
6. Add to the canvas and adjust it to the desired size, then duplicate the image as many times as needed. 
7. Arrange the butterflies on the square and beside the sunflower however you want. 

Cutting the cardstock

1. Turn on the Cricut machine and ensure the premium fine point blade.
2. Place the cardstock onto the mat(s) depending on how many images and colours you're working with. The machine wants you to keep feeding it and keep the cut going. 
3. Use the brayer to help adhere to the mat.
4. Go to “Make it” when you are ready to cut.
5. Pick the mat option that best suits your needs and click "Continue".
6. Review the images and then click “Continue”.
7. Set the material to cardstock that matches the weight you are using.
8. Load the mat into the machine when prompted by the "arrow" when it starts flashing.
9. Click the flashing “C” when it starts and repeat as needed.

Removing the cardstock:

1. Unload the mat when prompted and load the next mat (if you are using multiple mats)
2. Flip the mat over and peel the mat off the cardstock. Helps the cardstock from curling.
3. Use the spatula to help remove any of the pieces that didn’t come off the mat. 
4. Repeat as needed.

Assembly

1. Before gluing anything down, take the cutouts and place them on the card and arrange the cutouts where you want them placed. 
2. Once placed and arranged how you like, glue down the sunflower first, either using glue, tape or foam dots.
3. For the butterflies start at the top or the bottom of the card and work your way through the cutouts, either gluing them down or using the 3D foam dots. 
4. Write a birthday message in the card, and you are done!
