Finding a candle that is simple or fits your decor for Valentine's Day isn't always easy or can be expensive. There was a time when I spent far too much time looking for some and still couldn't what I was looking for. So instead I decided to make my own with candles and ribbon I already had at home. I only needed to buy the charms.

Using the flameless candle gives you the option of switching out the ribbon and charms to match the occasion. Decorating candles like this can add extra festivity or a pop of colour to your event or occasion.

Getting the materials needed is pretty easy you can find everything you would need on Amazon or Michaels. I got most of mine from Amazon since I could get multiple candles and assorted charms. Michaels will have it as well but the candles weren't what I was looking for. If you want individual charms Michaels is a good place for that too. You can find ribbons, jump rings, and two-sided tape at the Dollar Store. I found flameless candles there too but didn't like the quality. If you are on a budget it's still a great option though.

Materials

  • Flameless candles of any size
  • Burlap ribbon (thick)
  • Pink Ribbon (thinner) or twine used to tie the charm
  • Valentine's charms (Amazon or Michaels)
  • Jump rings
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Scissors
  • Two-sided tape
  • Batteries for the candles (I prefer rechargeable)

How to create

  1. If the batteries aren't already in the candle, put them in first. I did this first so I didn’t have to flip it over with everything on the candle.
  2. Wrap the burlap ribbon around the candle, cut it to fit around it, and leave a little extra to overlap the ends.
  3. Wrap the ribbon around again. Use a small piece of double-sided tape to tape the ribbon together. Pull the ribbon tight.
  4. Add a jump ring to the charm it will help keep the charm from twisting on the ribbon
  5. Take thinner ribbon or twine thread it through the charm(s) and tie it around the candle over top of the thicker ribbon.
