These turned out cuter than I thought they would. I was looking to make some new cute Easter decorations and wasn't sure what to do. After doing the bunny shadow box, these came as an idea.
The blue and the green cardstock that I used as the bottom layer is a textured paper that I forgot I had until I was looking around for something that caught my eye.
I don't have a lot of pictures for this project. I wasn't sure how these were going to turn out and if I would really like them when I was done.
Materials
- Cardstock for the background
- Cardstock for front layer
- 4 by 6 picture frame or desired size
- Cricut machine
- Fine point blade
- Green 12 by 12 mat
- 2-sided tape or glue
- Cricut Design Space
- Bunny image or desired image
How to create
- Create 2 squares, the same size as or just a little smaller than the picture frame— one square for the bunny cutout and one for the background.
- Go to images and look for the bunny image you want to use, and add it to the canvas.
- Move the bunny image over the square and size it.
- Once the bunny is sized, go to "alignment" and center it.
- Click and highlight the two images and go to “slice”, creating the bunny cutout. If you picked one that has a tail or a bow, remember to keep the cutout.
Cutting the cardstock
- Turn on the machine and make sure the fine-point blade is loaded.
- Place cardstock on the mat and run the brayer over the mat to help it stick to the mat.
- Go to “make it” when ready to cut.
- Choose “mat for any material” and click “continue”.
- Choose the “cardstock” option that best matches your material.
- Load the mat into the machine, then the “arrow” starts flashing.
- Click the flashing “C” when prompted to begin the cut.
- Repeat for the next cut.
Removing the cardstock
- Unload the mat when the “arrow” starts flashing.
- Flip the mat over and pull the mat off the cardstock. This will help the cardstock from curling.
- Use the spatula to remove any cutouts that are stuck to the mat.
- Repeat as needed.
Assembly
- Add 2-sided tape to the back of the square with the bunny cutout.
- Place the bunny cutout onto the full square.
- If there was a tail cutout, take the foam dot and use that to attach the tail.
- Lay the picture frame facedown, and add the bunny cutout to the picture frame
- Add the back and close it.
